Name: Marceline Redway
Age: 26
Gender: Female
Appearance:Here
Personality:Out of her loud, flamboyant family, Marceline has often been referred to as demure. She likes to keep to herself, doesn't speak unless she's spoken to, but she isn't a complete rulebreaker. She has a quick wit and will take the opportunity to make someone look like an idiot. She is very intelligent, having gone through all levels of schooling in her younger years.
Rather than spending her 'prime' years trying to look for a husband, she has her nose stuffed comfortably in a book. She assists her family with their marketing skills and tries her best to ensure that they can make an honest day's pay. She doesn't like cockiness and cannot tolerate any sort of intolerance toward others. She prefers brains to beauty and is very hard to court or even gain attention because of her humble background.
Background History:
As a child, Marceline was the oldest out of three daughters and two sons. She was the wisest and most caring, often trying to ensure that, even when they were struggling, her family had everything they needed, even if it meant that she would go hungry for a few days. Of Russian descent, her family moved out of their poverty stricken town to a quaint little French town, in hopes of having a better life. Her mother was a freelance seamstress, crafting clothes and accessories to sell on the market and her father was a craftsmen of his own.
The both of them often worked day in and day out in order to get enough to at least buy eggs and milk. At home, the older children grew a garden of numerous fruits and vegetables in hopes of lessening their parent's pay and it worked for a while until their land had been salted by raging villagers in the time of war. Marceline's family was devistated and had to continue on with their search for a stable, suitable home.
Marceline, in between working and sleeping, always had her face in a book. She so desperately wanted to study and become smarter in order to get her family out of their hardships. She went through her schooling, helped until midnight, sometimes later, and still managed to wake up with a smile on her face in the morning.
When she turned about fifteen, her younger sister, age thirteen, had been courted by a young lord around their age, after numerous failed attempts at courting Marceline herself. Her sister married this young man a year later and their family had been saved from their hard life. While her sister and a few of her other siblings changed from the power, Marceline stayed the same. She grew more beautiful, both in appearance and personality, and stayed true to her roots, still taking the time to read as much as possible.
She couldn't care much for the meetings and festivities she was often requested to go to. She would attend them, but bring a small novel to read on and refuse to dance with any. Most found her to be the most stubborn sister when, in fact, Marceline just wanted to get better. She never wanted a life like this. Granted, she was enthralled that her family was saved, but she was bitter at the fact that it was not A: by her own hands and B: of more 'dignifying' ways.
She took no interest in the pompous men that tried to court her. They would bring her gifts, trinkets, proclaim their undying love to the young woman but would she ever listen? Barely. She preferred the romances she read of in the books that surrounded her luxurious room. No matter how wonderful her life seemed, she wouldn't be happy with it because it wasn't her happy ending. She would never be content until she would bring about her own changes by her own hand.
Fun Facts:
Her speech of different literature types often intimidates people, which is also one reason why she doesn't speak to many people.
She doesn't care about fancy feathers, so to speak. She could be content talking to a homeless man so long as he knew what he was talking about.
She's very kind and often tries to do things the right way. To some extent, she is pious.
